Music Teachers

We Teach Music is a collective of seriously experienced music teachers driven by a burning passion for live performance and a lifetime of learning their craft. All our teachers are DBS checked and have Level 1 Safeguarding training.  We offer both private music lessons at Stonepitts Farm and peripatetic music teaching in local schools.

 

Dan Clews (Guitar)

With an impressive resume of experience within music teaching and the music business, the founder of We Teach Music brings a wealth of knowledge to every lesson. Teaching from beginner to advanced levels, numerous students have gone on to become internationally recognised artists in their own right. His passion for teaching is met in equal measures by his passion for song writing, recording and performance where Dan has performed in prestigious venues such as the Albert Hall, toured America where the US government have recognised him as an artist of international worth and enjoyed airplay, interviews and sessions on Radio 2, 6 Music and numerous regional BBC stations.   

Conor Williams (Drums)

Having played since the age of 10 Conor studied music at higher level at the University of Kent, gaining a distinction in Performing Popular Music. Conor is a versatile drummer with skills in a vast array of styles such as Rock, Pop, Funk, Soul, Jazz and Hip-Hop. He has performed original and function material at a number of venues including The Barfly, o2 Academy, Hop Farm, Boardmasters, Lounge on The Farm and French Quarter Festival in New Orleans. Since finishing his degree Conor has become an in-demand music teacher, working privately and in schools across Kent. He appreciates attending live music shows, clinics and masterclasses, continuing to study and practice drums in order to become a better musician and drum teacher.

Andrew Matthews (Guitar, Piano)

Having played in bands since the age of 16, Andrew has gained a wealth of experience in performing, recording, touring and songwriting. He plays lead guitar in the critically acclaimed heavy metal act STONEGHOST, which has seen him perform at major international festivals and on TV! He has been teaching for over a decade and given guitar lessons to pupils of all ages and abilities: he is equally comfortable helping demonstrate advanced shred licks as he is with delicate classical finger-picking! 

Ashleigh Barker-Hughes (Piano, Singing, Flute)

Ashleigh has been immersed in music since the age of 8, specialising in piano, vocals and flute. Having been classically trained until the age of 17, she then went on to study Popular Music Performance for 4 years, exploring other genres of music such as funk, blues, soul, jazz, pop, rock, Americana, reggae and hip hop. Ashleigh has performed at a range of venues in the UK and abroad (France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and New Orleans) with different bands performing covers and original material. Ashleigh brings this wealth of experience to her lessons that focus on learning through enjoyment and familiar repertoire.

Richard Morse (Guitar)

Richard Morse has been a guitarist for over thirty years and a professional touring musician for eighteen years. When not engaged in his busy teaching schedule he performs live in UK theatres with Think Floyd, the definitive Pink Floyd show. Richard can teach to a high standard across a range of styles including Modern Rock, Pop, Funk, Acoustic, Blues, Metal and many more. He holds a First Class Ba (Hons) degree from Falmouth University in Creative Music Performance.

Marc Brereton (Guitar)

Marc’s lessons draw from his many years working in education and his vast experience playing in his internationally recognised brother/sister duo “The Breretons” and the critically acclaimed band “Possessor.” As an educator within music, Marc was invited to run specialised workshops at Glastonbury Festival. Locally he has been involved in running The School Of Rock (established in 2005) where he now works as a course leader. He has been teaching one to one lessons with We Teach Music since 2016, during which time he has set countless students on a path of musical discovery and enjoyment. 

Cris Finniss (Drums)

As drummer in Rock/Metal group Stoneghost, Cris has toured the UK and beyond, the culmination of their hard work resulting in recognition on Kerrang Radio and Kerrang Magazine where the band enjoyed rave reviews and airplay. Cris has been teaching with We Teach Music since 2016 and brings a fresh enthused approach. “It’s such a rewarding thing to see students come in with little to no experience and over time, become competent drummers who enjoy their experience.” Cris’ students have enjoyed a 100% pass rate with RSL Rockschool and they continue to develop and discover the many rewards of playing the drums.   

Relf Kent (Guitar)

Relf is a BRIT school graduate who plays regular shows all over London with several artists and original projects. He specialises in technical guitar playing of various styles including rock, metal, jazz, fusion, blues, and country. Other areas of expertise include music production and sound design over several software platforms. Relf’s work ethic has culminated in a staggering technique which brings both inspiration and an insight into his lessons where he continues to inspire students to reach beyond their expectations.

Hannah Richards (Piano, Singing)

Hannah has been immersed in music for over 14 years, training in a variety of styles and instruments. She recently graduated from the University of Chichester Conservatoire with BA Hons Musical Theatre Performance (2:1), and has also achieved ABRSM Grade 8 Classical singing, Grade 5 Music Theory and Trinity Grade 8 Musical Theatre. On top of this Hannah has experience with Choral Singing, Jazz, Pop and Country music, as well as writing and performing her own original music for many years. Hannah has performed across the UK, including performances at Leeds Classical Concert, West End Live, The Bridewell Theatre (Off-West End) and enjoyed performing in a run at The Other Palace (West End). Most recently Hannah has been traveling the world performing with Night Owl Shows, including performances across the UK, America and Australia. Hannah is offering piano lessons and singing lessons for all abilities and genres.

Tom Houghton (Drums)

Tom is a freelance professional drummer and drum tutor who has performed extensively around the UK and Europe with various artists. Through his work as a session drummer he is experienced working in London’s top recording studios and has worked with artists on major record and publishing deals.  Tom is passionate about playing live and his specialist genres are Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul, Funk and Pop.

Tom also takes a lot of pride in the teaching side of his career and has over 10 years experience on a one to one and group level. He enjoys guiding students from total beginners to talented players who can contribute high standards and fresh ideas within band settings or for pure enjoyment.

Will Buchanan (keyboards, singing, guitar, drums)

William Buchanan is a multi-talented musician who studied music at Cambridge University. He has been performing professionally as a singer, keyboard player, guitarist, bassist and drummer for over ten years. As a teacher, William is passionate about providing his students with the tools and guidance to develop their own unique musical styles. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share, and is dedicated to helping his students reach their full potential. William is a highly versatile teacher, and is able to accommodate a variety of learning styles. He is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and techniques, and is always looking for new ways to help his students grow.
